CUPS · VIII
Eight of Cups
A deliberate leaving. The cups were real; they are not enough, or not true. Mastery here is the walk, not a speech about the shore.
- ELEMENT
- water
- NUMBER
- Eight — work and mastery: walking away under a moon, the cups stacked and left.
- SYMBOLS
- a figure walking from eight cups stacked on a shore, staff in hand · a moon in eclipse or double, night as the hour of leaving · a gap in the stack, something already incomplete in what is left · mountains ahead, the work of going, not of staying pretty
UPRIGHT
- +the dignity of an honest exit
- +seeking a deeper water
- +refusing to rearrange a life that is already complete as a disappointment
- −leaving as a reflex whenever a cup asks you to stay
- −romanticizing the mountains to avoid a conversation
- −abandoning what still needed one more pour
- IN LOVE
- Disengagement, a quiet packing. If you go, go cleanly. If you are being left, the moon is not your enemy.
- IN WORK
- A vocation outgrown, a role that cannot be restacked into meaning. Walk. Take the staff.
- IN SELF
- You may be done. That is not cruelty. Check you are not leaving the self that needed to speak before the shore.
REVERSED
The walk stalls at the tideline — fear of leaving, a return, or so many leavings that nothing is ever lived.
- Blocked — the upright current exists and is dammed.
- Internalized — the drama is inner rather than worldly.
- Excess — the current is overplayed.
Blocked Eight of Cups will not take the night road. Inner Eight is a private farewell. Excess Eight collects exits as identity.
