The wall of seventy-eight
Original plates, Rider–Waite–Smith as grammar. Majors first — the weather system — then the four suits of daily weather. Open a plate for keywords, element, number, the upright gist, and the sentences we refuse to write about it. This is a study wall, not a scraped encyclopedia.
Major Arcana
Twenty-two chapters of the Fool’s journey. One Major among Minors is a heading. Three or more, and the situation is archetypal.
0
The Fool
Beginner's trust: the step before the path has a name. You are allowed to move without a résumé for the journey.
I
The Magician
Will as channel, not costume. Attention plus tool plus timing — the first real skill after the step.
II
The High Priestess
Inner knowing that will not be rushed. Sit at the veil until the true word arrives; silence is a method, not a lack.
III
The Empress
Embodiment, plenty, the living world. Growth wants conditions, not slogans: food, rest, beauty, a place things can ripen.
IV
The Emperor
Structure, law of the bone, fathering a world. Order is a kindness when it protects life; a cruelty when it protects only itself.
V
The Hierophant
Tradition as teacher, not jailer. There is a craft older than your mood; kneel to it long enough to know which parts to keep.
VI
The Lovers
Choice that makes a self; not just romance. Alignment is a vow between values, bodies, and futures — spoken, not assumed.
VII
The Chariot
Directed will after the choice. Victory here is not domination of the road; it is two contrary pulls driven as one vehicle.
VIII
Strength
Soft mastery; courage without spectacle. The beast is not the enemy — it is heat that can be lived with, guided, not shamed.
IX
The Hermit
Solitude that illuminates; not exile as identity. Withdraw far enough to hear, then bring the lamp back down the mountain.
X
Wheel of Fortune
Turn of fortune; agency inside cycles. You are not the axle, and you are not nothing — there is a way to ride without pretending you invented gravity.
XI
Justice
Consequence, proportion, the cut that is fair. Cause and effect are in the room; so is your chance to make the next cause cleaner.
XII
The Hanged Man
Surrender that reveals; not victimization. Hang long enough for the picture to invert — then use what you see.
XIII
Death
Necessary ending; transformation of form. Something is complete. Grieve it, compost it, do not taxidermy it into a future.
XIV
Temperance
Mixing, pacing, the middle that is skilled. Not bland compromise — a chemistry that takes both heat and time.
XV
The Devil
Bondage that is consented to; appetite as master. The chain is real, and it is also liftable — which is the part that stings.
XVI
The Tower
False structure breaking. Not divine spite. What could not tell the truth is coming down so that something honest can be built lower and better.
XVII
The Star
Quiet hope after wreckage. Not a guarantee — a climate in which healing is possible if you keep pouring.
XVIII
The Moon
Intuition and projection sharing a sky. Something is true in the water; not everything the water shows is a map. Walk, and check the towers.
XIX
The Sun
Unforced joy, visibility, warmth. Success that does not require a villain. You can be seen without being used.
XX
Judgement
Reckoning as calling, not courtroom. A larger life is asking you to stand up inside the one you already have.
XXI
The World
Completion, integration, the work becoming a place. You can inhabit what you have made. The next Fool, if it comes, will be a different step.
Wands · fire
Will, vocation, desire, creative heat, courage. When the wall is warm here, the question is about energy and identity-in-action.
Ace
Ace of Wands
A live spark. Permission to want a thing enough to light it — vocation, desire, a beginning that is already green.
II
Two of Wands
Will at the planning window. You can see further than you have walked; the task is to pick a coast and leave the battlement.
III
Three of Wands
The ships have left. First harvest of a venture: expansion, collaboration, the view after the plan. Stay on the cliff long enough to receive, not to micromanage the wind.
IV
Four of Wands
A threshold worth marking. Home, team, rite, the first stable room for a fire that had been only travel.
V
Five of Wands
Sparring. Conflict that can train or bruise depending on whether anyone remembers it is practice. Heat is in the room; it wants a rule or it becomes a brawl.
VI
Six of Wands
Recognition after contest. Ride through; do not dismount into a personality of being applauded. The wreath is a moment, not a throne.
VII
Seven of Wands
Hold the hill you actually chose. This is not a war against the world; it is the test of whether your stance can take pressure.
VIII
Eight of Wands
Swift passage. Messages, travel, a thing that was stuck now moving at the speed of the element. Steer; do not stand in the path for sport.
IX
Nine of Wands
Last stretch of a campaign. You are not unhurt, and you are not finished. Guard what you built; do not pick a new war to feel like yourself.
X
Ten of Wands
Too much of a good fire. Responsibility, overcommitment, the harvest that has to be carried. Set something down before the town, not after you collapse in it.
Page
Page of Wands
Spark, apprentice heat. A message of yes, a student of fire. Receive the impulse; do not yet appoint yourself captain of it.
Knight
Knight of Wands
Fast pursuit, plan later. Courage, travel, the erotic of going. Brilliant for a charge; costly as a lifestyle.
Queen
Queen of Wands
Warm authority. You do not have to raise your voice to own the room; inhabit the fire until others can stand near it without burning.
King
King of Wands
Vision held in public. Steward the campaign, the company, the family fire. Your job is to keep the heat useful, not to be the most passionate person in the room.
Cups · water
Feeling, bond, imagination, grief, intimacy. Water is the climate of attachment and meaning-of-heart.
Ace
Ace of Cups
A true first water: feeling, invitation, the heart's yes before it has a plot. Receive; do not immediately brand it as fate.
II
Two of Cups
A real exchange. Not merger — two cups, two people, one chemistry. The work is mutuality, not the myth of one soul in two bodies.
III
Three of Cups
Companionship as first harvest. Friendship, a team that likes its work, the medicine of being glad in a group without turning it into a brand.
IV
Four of Cups
Apathy in a room that still has water. The container is closed. The fourth cup is not a trick; it is the life you will not taste until you uncross the arms.
V
Five of Cups
Mourning what spilled. The loss is real; so are the two cups you have not turned to yet. Do not be hurried, and do not live only in the puddle.
VI
Six of Cups
Innocent exchange, old sweetness, a gift from a former garden. Recovery through what was once simple. Visit; do not move back in as if time were a door you own.
VII
Seven of Cups
Imagination at full flood. Visions are real as visions. The test is which cup can survive being set on the actual table.
VIII
Eight of Cups
A deliberate leaving. The cups were real; they are not enough, or not true. Mastery here is the walk, not a speech about the shore.
IX
Nine of Cups
Satisfaction. A wish that landed in the body. Enjoy the banquet without turning the nine cups into a personality of having.
X
Ten of Cups
Emotional completion as a shared place. Kin — blood or chosen — under a weather you helped make. Inhabit it. Do not demand it stay rainbow.
Page
Page of Cups
Tender notice. A message of feeling, a dream, an artistic twitch. Receive the fish; do not yet write the novel of what it means.
Knight
Knight of Cups
An offer of feeling: courtship, a poem delivered, a quest that is actually about the heart. Beautiful when sincere; costly when the horse never arrives.
Queen
Queen of Cups
Deep listening. Emotional authority that does not need to leak. You can hold a room's weather without becoming the storm or the drain.
King
King of Cups
Weather stewarded. Emotional leadership: calm that is not numb, kindness that can still decide. You hold the sea so others can sail.
Swords · air
Mind, speech, conflict, analysis, decision. Air names truth-telling, anxiety, and strategy.
Ace
Ace of Swords
A crowned idea: truth, decision, the first honest edge. Use it to clarify, not to collect heads. The gift is precision.
II
Two of Swords
A held tension. Two truths, both armed. The blindfold is not stupidity — it is the refusal to look until looking is safe, or the stall that has become a room.
III
Three of Swords
Heartbreak, a truth that landed, the first harvest of a sharp season. Name the wound without decorating it or denying the rain will pass.
IV
Four of Swords
A chosen stillness of the mind. Recuperation, truce, the container that lets a sword cool. This is not laziness; it is maintenance of the instrument.
V
Five of Swords
A win that cost the room. Humiliation, gloating, or being the one who left rather than become the smirk. Air's disruption is social.
VI
Six of Swords
A crossing with the thoughts still on board. You do not have to dump the swords to leave; you have to sit still enough to be ferried.
VII
Seven of Swords
Strategy in a grey light. This can be tact, theft, a necessary unofficial exit, or the part of you that will not fight fair because the camp was never fair. Name the ethics out loud to yourself.
VIII
Eight of Swords
A cage made mostly of thought. The work is to notice which swords are yours, which are the world's, and which are theater. Mastery is the first small step, not a speech about freedom.
IX
Nine of Swords
Anguish of the unquiet mind. Worry, grief, a rehearsal of catastrophe. The swords are on the wall, not in the body — which does not make the night less real, only less prophetic.
X
Ten of Swords
The thought-story has run to its last frame. Ruin, betrayal, a mental narrative that cannot go further. The dawn is the point: this is over, which is terrible and which is the only way morning arrives.
Page
Page of Swords
Curiosity that cuts. A question, a message, a student of argument. Receive the information; do not yet appoint yourself prosecutor.
Knight
Knight of Swords
Swift argument, a charge for a principle. Useful when the room needs a cut. Costly when collateral is not in the visor.
Queen
Queen of Swords
Boundary, kindness without self-erasure. A mind inhabited: clear, adult, unwilling to be used as a dumping ground or a blade for hire.
King
King of Swords
Principle applied. Steward of thought, law, strategy. The gift is a fair cut; the cost is being right when rightness is lonely. Include the cost in the ruling.
Pentacles · earth
Body, money, craft, time, the material world. Earth is livelihood, habit, skill, and home.
Ace
Ace of Pentacles
A seed in the hand: money, body, a job, a plot of earth. The gift is real and it is not yet an orchard. Plant it.
II
Two of Pentacles
Two weights in one dance. Time, money, roles, a body with two jobs. The skill is rhythm, not pretending the ships are not on a sea.
III
Three of Pentacles
Work as a hall you build with others. Competence, critique, a guild. The first harvest of pentacles is not a paycheck; it is a wall that stands.
IV
Four of Pentacles
A container that has become a fist. Stability, savings, a boundary around resource — useful until the city is only a backdrop and the body is a bank.
V
Five of Pentacles
Material or bodily winter. Exclusion, illness, a thin wallet, being outside a warmth you can see. The disruption is real. So is the possibility that the door was never tried, or was tried and failed.
VI
Six of Pentacles
Resource in motion. Giving, receiving, a fair wage, a gift with a scale in it. Recovery in earth is circulation — and the scale asks whether the giving is dignity or theater.
VII
Seven of Pentacles
The test of patience in matter. Work is in the ground. Assessment is the stance: what to prune, what to wait, what was never going to fruit.
VIII
Eight of Pentacles
The work of getting good. Apprenticeship, revision, a bench. Mastery in earth is not a mood; it is the eighth disc after the seventh.
IX
Nine of Pentacles
Self-possessed plenty. Skill, money, or solitude that is a garden, not a jail. Enjoy the falcon. Remember the snail — this was grown, not granted by a mood.
X
Ten of Pentacles
The orchard as a place. Wealth, kin, a craft that outlives a week. Completion in earth is a gate: who gets in, who tends, who inherits the dogs.
Page
Page of Pentacles
Practical seed. A student of the real: a class, a budget, a body beginning a craft. Receive the coin as a teacher, not as a trophy.
Knight
Knight of Pentacles
Slow reliable mile. Pursuit without theater: the job done, the rent paid, the body walked. Dull only to people who do not live in winters.
Queen
Queen of Pentacles
Resourcefulness as care. Inhabit matter so that others can live: food, money sense, a body treated as a garden, a home that works.
King
King of Pentacles
Orchard stewardship. Money, land, a company, a family craft — held so it can outlast you. The king is not the richest person; the king is the one who keeps the trees.
