Seven of Swords

Strategy in a grey light. This can be tact, theft, a necessary unofficial exit, or the part of you that will not fight fair because the camp was never fair. Name the ethics out loud to yourself.

ELEMENT: air
NUMBER: Seven — test of stance: leaving camp with five, two left in the ground.
SYMBOLS: a figure in profile, arms full of five swords, stepping away from a tented camp · two swords remaining in the earth, what could not be carried or what was left as decoy · a yellow sky, the odd light of a strategy that is not quite day · a look back, cunning mixed with the knowledge of being seen

UPRIGHT

+cleverness in an uneven field
+taking only what is yours, even if the taking looks sideways
+knowing when not to announce the plan
−betrayal of a trust you actually had
−living as if everyone is a camp to raid
−pride in being the one who got away

IN LOVE: A secret, a half-truth, an exit in progress. If you are the camp, ask what was actually taken. If you are the figure, ask whether the five swords are yours.
IN WORK: Office politics, IP, a quiet job search. Strategy is allowed. Theft of dignity is not.
IN SELF: You may need a sideways move. Do not build a self out of never being catchable.

REVERSED

The figure is caught, confesses, or turns back — or the strategy goes fully underground.

Blocked — the upright current exists and is dammed.
Shadow — the unused face of the card.
Internalized — the drama is inner rather than worldly.

Reversed Seven of Swords can be a return of what was taken. Shadow Seven doubles down on the sneak. Inner Seven is a private plot you have not tested against ethics.
