CUPS · Knight
Knight of Cups
An offer of feeling: courtship, a poem delivered, a quest that is actually about the heart. Beautiful when sincere; costly when the horse never arrives.
- ELEMENT
- water
- NUMBER
- Court — pursue: the offer of feeling. A cup carried at a measured trot.
- MODE
- Pursue — the charge outward
- SYMBOLS
- a rider in armor decorated with fish, a cup held as an offering · a horse more walking than charging, water's knight is not a warhorse of fire · a river in the landscape, feeling as the road · a winged helm, imagination as helmet
UPRIGHT
- +romance as a practice of showing up
- +art carried into the world
- +loyalty to a feeling long enough to offer it
- −the idea of love instead of the person
- −promises the horse cannot keep
- −rescuer as identity
- IN LOVE
- The approach, the grand or quiet offer. Receive the cup. Watch whether they dismount.
- IN WORK
- A proposal, a creative pitch, advocacy. Bring the feeling to the table, then stay for the minutes.
- IN SELF
- You may be on a quest of the heart. Good. Check it is not a costume of being the one who feels more.
REVERSED
The offer is withdrawn, performative, or so inward it never leaves the river — moodiness, a stalled quest, charm without arrival.
- Blocked — the upright current exists and is dammed.
- Shadow — the unused face of the card.
- Excess — the current is overplayed.
Blocked Knight of Cups will not offer. Excess Knight is all quest. Shadow Knight uses the cup as a lure.
