WANDS · IX
Nine of Wands
Last stretch of a campaign. You are not unhurt, and you are not finished. Guard what you built; do not pick a new war to feel like yourself.
- ELEMENT
- fire
- NUMBER
- Nine — near-full: the wounded sentinel, heat that learned to watch.
- SYMBOLS
- a figure in a bandage, stave planted, looking aside rather than charging · eight staves ranked behind like a palisade, past battles made into a wall · a taut body, stamina with a memory · a grey-green field, the long watch after the sparring
UPRIGHT
- +resilience with a scar that is allowed to exist
- +boundaries after experience
- +the discipline to finish
- −hypervigilance as identity
- −expecting attack from the next kind face
- −refusing rest because the wall might fall
- IN LOVE
- Trust is tired. Show up anyway, and say you are tired. Do not make the beloved prove they are not an army.
- IN WORK
- The last push on a long job. Protect the palisade. Ask for the help the bandage implies.
- IN SELF
- Your stamina is real. So is the wound. Both can be true on the same hill.
REVERSED
The sentinel collapses, or will not come off watch — burnout, or a life organized around being ready.
- Blocked — the upright current exists and is dammed.
- Excess — the current is overplayed.
- Shadow — the unused face of the card.
Blocked Nine of Wands cannot take one more stave. Excess Nine treats rest as betrayal. Shadow Nine calls everyone a siege.

WHAT WE WILL NOT SAY ABOUT THIS PLATE
- you're so strong, keep going
- don't trust anyone after what you've been through
- one more push will fix it
